COVID-19 Cancellation Notice
COVID-19 Cancellation Notice
The health and safety of our riders, volunteers, and the other stakeholders in our events have always been our top priorities. We didn’t hesitate to postpone the Hell of Hunterdon, Fleche Buffoon, or Fools Classic, when we recognized it wasn’t safe to organize the events as originally intended due to the COVID-19 crisis.
Rather than string everyone along indefinitely, we drew a go/no-go line in the gravel. We gave it full gas, but unfortunately the coronavirus outsprinted us to the line this year. We have determined, in this environment, it is just not possible to organize the events in a safe and responsible manner, or in a manner that lives up to everyone’s expectations. Therefore, we are officially cancelling the events for 2020, and are working hard to return in 2021 stronger than ever.
Starting next week, we are going to issue all 2020 registrants credits for their entry fees through BikeReg. These credits will be good through December of 2022, and can be used towards entry fees or merchandise for ANY Kermesse Sport event using BikeReg. Registrants for the entire Spring Classics Series will receive prorated credits, since the Sourland Semi-Classic took place as scheduled. If you received a complimentary entry because you volunteered, there is no credit to be issued, and we’ll work with you to give you an opportunity to volunteer again next year.
We recognize that these are difficult times for everyone; if you have a true hardship or extenuating circumstance that requires a refund, please contact us directly at kermessehq@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to discuss it with you.
Rather than drone on about the whole situation in this message, we have published an FAQ.
Although we have cancelled these 2020 events, cycling as a whole in the region isn’t outlawed. Health experts agree that exercise and fresh air remain important for our physical and mental well-being. Cycling is a great way of accomplishing both, when done safely, in a manner that promotes social distancing. Many of us are tired of riding the same roads around our homes over and over again.
To that end, we are working on self-supported versions of our spring classic courses, as well as some new and revitalized circuits. We’ll contact you as soon as we have the details finalized.
We appreciate the support we’ve received during this time from the Kermesse and wider cycling community. We are deeply disappointed that organizing the full fledged events is not possible this year; we look forward to the future, when we can have safe events that live up to their reputations.
Stay Safe & Healthy,
Kermesse Sport
